Summer Milky Way
During the summer, the galactic center is the absolute protagonist of our night skies. This is no coincidence; it’s because the combined motions of Earth’s rotation and translation force the nights toward the interior of our galaxy. This offers us an unparalleled spectacle, especially if we can travel to dark-sky locations, like the one we have at our Aras de los Olmos Observatory.
During summer nights, we can watch the Milky Way travel across the sky from east to west. On June 28th, our astrophotographers Alicia Lozano and Vicent Peris from the Observatory captured this timelapse showing the entire journey. The set of images also show a beautiful sagittarius lambda crossing Corona Borealis at 01:28 UTC, as well as the passage of the International Space Station and various satellites. Including a curious little visitor 😉:
